A professional installation of your new flooring starts with the right tools and accessories. FloorBox provides all brands to help you get a pro look in your home or business. A variety of materials can be used to improve your floor, such as underlayment, adhesive, grout and sealers. A carpet tool or a laminate floor cutter will help you cut your new floors down to size.

Types of Flooring Accessories

Underlayments
Subflooring is the first step in installing a new floor. If you are putting down carpet, for example, subflooring will help to provide adequate insulation and prevent moisture damage.

Adhesives
Glue-down carpets and hardwood floors require adhesive to adhere the flooring pieces together.

Mortar, Grout, and Caulk
Tile and brick work is not complete until the seams between tiles or bricks are caulked for a seamless look. Grout comes in many different varieties, so it's easy to tint mortar to coordinate with your tile color scheme. Caulking is often used to seal the final gaps between a floor and its baseboards or quarter round.

Sealers
Many natural stone tiles need to be treated with a sealer in order to prevent dirt and stains on their porous surfaces.

Underfloor Heating
By installing underfloor heating beneath hardwood floors, you can keep your feet warm when the temperature drops.

Floor Mouldings and Trims
Tile edging and trim allow for a smooth transition from floor to wall, creating a finished look. Floor T moulding is necessary when installing hard floors such as vinyl or laminate, but also works well with wood.

Flooring Tools
You can make cutting tile, hardwood, and carpet easier by having the right tools on hand.

Tile Tools
Tile cutting requires precision, and table saws are a great option for trimming tiles to the proper size. Manual tile cutters, suction cups (to keep new tiles from flying away), replacement blades, tile nippers for removing grout residue—these things can all be essential.

Carpet Tools
Carpet tape and razor blades are essential, as well as tack strips. Knee kickers can also be helpful. Stair tools (for use on stairs) and a heat bond iron will make your job easier to complete

Wood and Laminate Tools
To lay hard flooring, you will need a cutter, pull bar, leveler (also called an edging tool), and rubber mallet.

Installing new flooring can be a great way to refresh the look of any room. Hardwood floors in particular lend an elegant touch, while plush carpet makes living areas feel more cozy.

Frequently asked questions

See all FAQs
How do I choose the right tools for installing laminate flooring?

For laminate you need a cutter, a pull bar, an edging tool and a rubber mallet. Start with a cutter from Laminate and Flooring Cutters, made for laminate, vinyl and engineered wood planks.

What tools do I need to install tile on a floor?

Most floor tile jobs need a way to cut tile, a way to keep joints even and a way to mix mortar and grout. FloorBox groups these as Tile Saws, Tile Spacers and Leveling Accessories and Mortar and Grout Mixers. Check the tile maker's instructions for anything else your tile needs.

Which tools do I need to install vinyl plank or sheet flooring?

You need a cutter, plus a floor roller for glue-down and sheet vinyl to press the flooring into the adhesive. See Laminate and Flooring Cutters and Vinyl Floor Rollers. If the subfloor is not smooth, prepare it first with tools from Self-Leveling Tools.

What is a self-levelling tool used for before installing a new floor?

Self-levelling tools are used to pour, spread and finish self-levelling underlayment so the subfloor is smooth before tile, vinyl, laminate or wood goes down. They include gauge rakes, spiked rollers, spiked shoes and levelling pins for spreading the pour, releasing trapped air and checking depth. FloorBox carries them in Self-Leveling Tools.
