Vinyl Rollers
After you lay vinyl, linoleum or other glued-down flooring, a floor roller presses the covering firmly into the adhesive so the surface ends up flat. Choose a weighted floor roller for open areas (35, 75 or 100 lb), or a hand roller for edges, seams and spots near walls. You'll also find spare parts here, plus transport cases for moving a heavy roller from one job to another.
Frequently asked questions
See all FAQsWhat is a floor roller used for when installing vinyl flooring?
A floor roller presses sheet vinyl, VCT, linoleum and other glued-down coverings firmly into the adhesive for a smooth, level installation. Weighted rollers handle open areas; hand rollers reach edges and seams. For a full-room roll after a vinyl install, see the Roberts Heavy Duty Floor Roller 100 lb.
How do I choose between a 35 lb, 75 lb and 100 lb floor roller?
Roberts lists the same uses for its 35, 75 and 100 lb floor rollers: VCT, linoleum, carpet, sheet vinyl, cork underlayment and other floor coverings. Each has a 15-3/8" roller and a removable 30" handle. A heavier roller puts more weight on open areas; the lightweight Roberts 35 lb floor roller is easier to handle. Compare also the Roberts 75 lb and Roberts 100 lb.
When should I use a hand roller instead of a large floor roller?
Use a hand roller for edges, seams and spots near walls where a large floor roller will not reach. The Roberts Vinyl Roller Power-Lok extends from 18" to 28" with seven locking settings for sheet vinyl, VCT and linoleum. The Crain Extension Wall Roller rolls a 7½" strip per pass, works close to the wall with a recessed axle, and its handle adjusts from 17" to 27".
Can I use the same floor roller for linoleum, VCT and carpet?
Many weighted floor rollers are made for more than one covering. Roberts says its 100 lb, 75 lb and 35 lb rollers are for VCT, linoleum, carpet, sheet vinyl, cork underlayment and other floor coverings. A Toolway Stainless Steel Roller for Carpet is also listed here. Check each product page for its intended uses, and follow the adhesive maker's instructions for rolling.
How do I move a heavy floor roller from one job to another?
Pick a roller with detachable transport wheels or a wheeled protective case. The Roberts Heavy Duty Floor Roller 100 lb and the Roberts 75 lb have detachable transport wheels and a removable 30" handle, and the Crain Vinyl Roller with Case 100 lb comes with a wheeled protective case.
