ARDEX FEATHER FINISH® is a self-drying underlayment formulated from a blend of Portland cement and other hydraulic cements that provides a smooth, permanent finish for a variety of substrates prior to the installation of today’s demanding floor coverings, including sheet vinyl and VCT (vinyl composition tile).
ARDEX Feather Finish is used to give a subfloor a smooth, permanent finish before a new floor covering is installed. It is a self-drying, cement-based underlayment for interior use only.
ARDEX Feather Finish is made to go under a variety of floor coverings, including sheet vinyl and VCT (vinyl composition tile). For any other covering, check the ARDEX technical data sheet on the product page before you start.
Clean the subfloor down to sound, solid material by mechanical means, such as shot blasting or grinding; acid etching, adhesive removers, solvents and sweeping compounds are not acceptable. Concrete must be solid, thoroughly clean and free of oil, wax, grease, asphalt, curing compounds, sealers and anything that could block the bond. Follow the steps for your subfloor type in the ARDEX Feather Finish technical data sheet.
Mix one 10 lb (4.5 kg) bag with 2 1/2 quarts (2.4 L) of clean water, pouring the water in first, using a mixing paddle and a heavy-duty drill. For small batches by hand, use 2 parts powder to 1 part water by volume and mix with a margin trowel for 2 to 3 minutes. Do not add extra water, because it weakens the compound.
