Check what the cushion is made for and its density, which tells you how tightly packed the cushion is. VPC Ultra Gold (9 mm) and VPC Golden Memory (10 mm) are high-density residential cushions made for high-traffic areas, at 8 lb per cubic foot. VPC Maxi Mesh (6 mm, 7 lb per cubic foot) is made for heavy commercial traffic.
Can I put carpet underpad in a basement?
Yes, if you choose the right cushion. VPC says Ultra Gold, Golden Memory and Maxi Mesh are approved for above or below grade installation, and below grade includes basements. Leggett & Platt Berber Supreme has a StainSTOP moisture barrier that keeps spills from soaking through to the subfloor.
Can carpet underpad go over radiant floor heating?
Some can. Leggett & Platt Berber Supreme is listed as radiant heat compatible. Leggett & Platt says it has a very low R-value, so it holds back less of the heat from your floor. It also says the Radiant Professionals Alliance recommends it as a “Best Choice”.
How much carpet underpad comes in one roll?
It depends on the product. VPC cushions like Ultra Gold come in 6 ft wide rolls that cover 30 sq. yd. Berber Supreme comes in 54 in. x 30 ft rolls that cover 15 sq. yd. To plan your order, remember that one square yard equals 9 square feet.
