Types Of Hardwood Flooring
There are three different types of hardwood, or solid wood flooring: strip, plank, and parquet.
- Strip flooring: This type of hardwood flooring usually has widths between 25 and 76mm (1 - 3 inches), but the lengths of the strips can vary. It also ranges in thickness from 7.94 to 19.1mm (5/16 - ¾ of an inch).
- Plank flooring: Planks are wider than strip wood and have widths that vary between 76.2 to 304.8mm (1 - 12 inches). They have two thicknesses: 12.7mm (½ inch) and 19.1mm (¾ inch).
- Parquet flooring: This type of hardwood flooring differs from planks and strips as it makes use of wooden slats that are placed in geometric patterns and held in place by an adhesive or mechanical fastening.
What Are The Advantages Of Hardwood Flooring?
While hardwood floors are known for being on the pricey side, they have lots of advantages. Not only are they beautiful and natural-looking, but they are a long-term investment as they can last hundreds of years if maintained properly.
What Is The Best Wood For Hardwood Floors?
Certain woods are harder than others and, thus, are better for hardwood floors. Some of the best woods include oak, maple, and cherry. Walnut, bamboo, ash, and mahogany are also good options. If you want something more exotic, like teak or mesquite, then get ready to spend a bit more on your floors.
