The size listed for a floor vent cover usually refers to the duct opening, and the visible cover or frame can be larger. Measure the duct opening, then confirm both the inside duct size and the outside dimensions before you order. For example, the Biyork Nouveau 8 hardwood floor vent fits a 4" x 10" opening and measures 6.75" x 13" on the outside. Not sure about your measurements? Contact us.
What is the difference between a flush, a framed and a drop-in floor vent?
It comes down to when and how the vent goes in. The Aria Flush Lite vent cover "must be mounted before flooring" and is a pro install in about 30 minutes. The Aria Lite framed vent cover is a "DIY-install in 15 minutes" that you can "retrofit anytime". A drop-in vent is made for flooring that is already installed: with the Inte-Grates drop-in floor vent, you cut a piece of matching flooring to fit its centre tray.
How do I match a vent cover to my hardwood, vinyl or tile floor?
You have three options. Choose a wood vent: Biyork vents come in colours that co-ordinate with its Nouveau 8 floors, and the CG white oak flushmount vent is unfinished white oak. Customize a vent: the Aria Flush Lite can be customized with tile, hardwood, vinyl or carpet. Or use a drop-in: the Inte-Grates drop-in vent has a centre tray for a piece of your own flooring.
Can I control the airflow from a floor vent cover?
On some models, yes, but not every vent has a damper. The Aria Flush Lite has integrated airflow control dampers. Select sizes of the Aria Lite framed vent take the optional Aria Lite Damper, sold separately: it clips on with no tools and cannot be removed once clipped. The Inte-Grates drop-in vent has a sliding airflow control.
Are plastic floor vent covers strong enough for high-traffic areas?
It depends on the product. Aria states that its Lite vents in ABS plastic hold up to 300 lbs, and it describes the Aria Flush Lite as ideal for high-traffic areas. The Aria Lite framed vent has the same 300 lbs rating. For other plastic vents, check the product specs before you use them in a busy spot.
Do you have vent covers for walls and ceilings too?
Yes. The Aria Flush Wall Vent Lite is made for walls and ceilings. It needs drywall mudding, and its centre plate can be painted or wallpapered. Inte-Grates also offers a drywall and ceiling drop-in vent.
