Schluter-DITRA-HEAT-E-HK are twisted pair heating cables designed for integration with the DITRA-HEAT uncoupling membrane in interior floor warming applications. Important tips on selecting Schluter-DITRA-HEAT heating cables: Don't buy heating cables to do the entire tiled area: it will be too much! Very important: NEVER CUT OR MODIFY the heating cable. This will change the resistance of the cable and could damage it and cause it to overheat. The cable can also be laid out in alternating intervals of three, then two spikes, in certain areas or for the entire floor. This practice may be used to increase heating capacity (e.g., on uninsulated or below-grade concrete subfloors) or to use a longer cable in a given area (e.g., when the three-spike arrangement does not meet the minimum spacing from walls, partitions, etc.). Four studs apart is not recommended as it may result in uneven temperature. Minimum distance from walls, partitions and fixed cabinets: 2" (50 mm). Minimum distance from heat sources (baseboard heaters, fireplaces, forced-air heating systems, etc.): 8" (200 mm). Minimum distance from drain and forced air ducts: 4" (100 mm). Minimum distance from centerline of toilet drains: 7" (180 mm). NEVER install heating cables under vanities with no air space underneath, bathtub platforms and freestanding bathtubs with no air space underneath, or in kitchen cabinets and islands and other fixtures, or in small storage or clothing closets where flooring may continue. Excessive heat will build up in such enclosed spaces, which could result in overheating. NEVER run the heating cable under or through a wall, partition or through a floor. NEVER install the fitting (black plastic piece to join the cold wire and the grey heating cable) in a wall, as this could cause overheating, system failure or damage. The connection must be completely recessed under the floor covering, as explained in the heating cable installation instructions. It is useful to provide a buffer zone, as it is not possible to predict exactly where the heating cable will terminate. The buffer zone is an area where heating is not essential and is not intended to receive the cables, e.g. behind a toilet or near a door opening. This area allows the excess heating cable to be concealed. The heating cables can also be laid 6" (150 mm) from the walls to create the buffer zone. The heating cable must be tested while it is still in its reel, as well as at two subsequent stages during installation, to ensure the quality of the cable and for warranty purposes. A megohmmeter is required to perform the heating cable insulation resistance test. It is strongly recommended to perform the insulation resistance test. Please consult a qualified electrician before ordering DITRA-HEAT heating cables to select the correct voltage cables for your installation.
