Schluter-DITRA-DRAIN is a passive capillary drainage and decoupling mat that can be installed outdoors on a minimum slope of 1.5 cm per meter. Schluter-DITRA-DRAIN 4 consists of a polyethylene mat with a truncated cone-shaped stud structure approximately 4 mm high, to which a permeable polypropylene fleece is glued, and truncated pyramid-shaped studs approximately 2 mm high. These studs create dovetails on the underside to anchor the adhesive mortar. The mortar should be applied to the substrate with a 6 x 6 mm notched trowel and the Schluter-DITRA-DRAIN 4 mat embedded in the mortar. The white fleece on the top of the mat is used to hold the adhesive mortar for fixing the flooring. This fleece is water and vapor permeable, allowing the adhesive to dry quickly and preventing water from seeping into the flooring (passive capillary action). The close spacing of the truncated cone-shaped studs allows them to withstand pressures of up to 50 t/m² and the dovetails ensure a very good bond to the substrate. Schluter-DITRA-DRAIN 4 is suitable for use as a decoupling system for large-format (larger than 60 x 60) tiles in interior applications.
