Frequently asked questions
See all FAQsWhat is Forbo Marmoleum made of?
Marmoleum is Forbo's linoleum. Forbo makes it from linseed oil (from flax seeds), pine rosin, wood flour, limestone and pigments; Marmoleum rolls are calendered onto a woven jute backing. The surface is finished with Topshield pro. FloorBox's Marmoleum specs list it as free of PVC, PET, synthetic rubber and plasticizers, and Forbo says these natural ingredients give it inherent anti-static and antimicrobial properties. See the Marbled Real rolls.
Should I choose Marmoleum rolls, Modular tiles or Cinch LOC SEAL click panels?
Rolls are 2 m (79 in.) wide and 2.5 mm thick, sold by the square yard, and glued down to cover large areas with few seams. Modular tiles (25 x 100 cm, 2.5 mm) are glued down with standard tile-fitting techniques. Cinch LOC SEAL comes in 12 x 36 in. panels (9.8 mm thick, with a cork backing) and 12 x 12 in. squares that click together without glue, so there is no adhesive to spread or let dry.
Is Marmoleum Cinch LOC SEAL waterproof?
Forbo describes Cinch LOC SEAL as waterproof flooring: a Marmoleum top layer on a waterproof HDF core with a cork backing. Forbo's product page also calls it water-resistant and suggests it for kitchens, bathrooms and busy living areas. Its installation guide still asks you to wipe up spills within 30 minutes, seal the expansion gap in wet areas with mildew-resistant silicone, and not install it on floors with flooding problems. On concrete or over radiant heat, a vapour barrier must be used under all Marmoleum click installations. See Cinch LOC SEAL.
Can I install Forbo Marmoleum over radiant floor heating?
Yes. FloorBox's specs list Marmoleum rolls and Modular tiles as compatible with electric and hydronic radiant heat. Cinch LOC SEAL click panels are listed for hydronic heat only and need a vapour barrier over radiant heat; Forbo's Cinch LOC SEAL guide also says the subfloor surface must never go above 85°F (29°C). Can Forbo Marmoleum be used in commercial spaces?
Yes. FloorBox's specs rate Marmoleum rolls and Modular tiles for residential, commercial and industrial use (traffic classes 23 domestic heavy, 34 commercial very heavy and 43 industrial heavy), with a 30-year commercial limited warranty from Forbo. Cinch LOC SEAL is rated for residential and commercial use. To glue rolls and tiles, FloorBox carries Forbo Sustain 1195 and Sustain 100 linoleum and Marmoleum adhesives.
What other Forbo flooring can I order at FloorBox?
